Girls AA Top 25 summaries

*week of Oct. 17, 2005

1) Palatine- The Pirates breezed to victory in tough MSL conference action over runner up Barrington with 54 points= 3, 7, 11, 15, and 18; will host Palatine Regional on 10/22.

2) Sandburg (Orland Park)- won SW Suburban Blue title over a quality and then #10 Lockport team 33-42; will compete in Bremen Regional on 10/22.

3) Wheaton North- The Falcons met Naperville North for the third time this year and won twice.  To date the DVC crown is big but the margin of victory is low (35-36).  The Falcons received a solid performance from ace Amanda Laesch; at Aurora West Regional 10/22.

4) Naperville North- The Huskies were mildly upset by a good WN team.  The Huskies perhaps came up short with “just” a 9th place effort by one of the state’s top runners in Michelle Stratton; will compete in Hinsdale Central Regional on 10/22.

5) Barrington- The Fillies strength is in their pack (9, 10, 12, 16, and 26) and it propelled them to a second place finish in the ultra-competitive MSL; will compete in Libertyville Regional on 10/22.

6) Edwardsville- The Tigers won the Southwestern Conference so easily with 16 points (1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 8).  Super sophomore Lia Saunders won in 19:12 and previous ranked Jamie Kanter, who has been grounded with illness the last several weeks contributed to the team effort with a 4th place effort; next is Alton Regional on 10/22

7) Benet Academy (Lisle) - The Redwings cruise to victory over St. Viator in ESCC action with a swift 31 points.  The Redwings placed four runners in the top ten behind Abby Higgins 20 second victory; will compete in the Hinsdale Central Regional on 10/22.

8) Hinsdale Central- The Lady Red Devils slipped a bit due an untimely lack luster effort.  They tied for WSC Silver title over previously unranked and unheralded York with 53 points.  The actual title was awarded to HC because of a lower sixth finisher; will host HC Regional on 10/22.

9) Lincoln Way East (Frankfort)- copped the Southwest Suburban Red title with 20 points over a solid and then #21 Andrew 20-45.  Senior Amanda Beggs led her Griffins with a 1, 2, 3 finish and three more in the top 10; will compete in the Bremen Regional on 10/22.

10) Cary Grove- won the Fox Valley Conference meet for the second consecutive year over previously #20 Prairie Ridge.  The Trojans placed four runners in the top 10 behind freshman Molly MacInnes’ 4th place finish; will compete in Woodstock Regional on 10/22.

11) Lockport- finished second to mighty Sandburg in SW Suburban Blue division on the strength of 1, 3 finish in Janna Mitsos and Liz Phillips; next up is Hinsdale Central Regional on 10/22.

12) St. Charles East- the Saints mysteriously rebounds from an awful performance display last week with a convincing conference victory over previously #22 Waubonsie Valley and solid performers in Neuqua Valley and Lake Park; will host St. Charles East Regional on 10/22.

13) Lyons Township (LaGrange) - third at WSC Silver meet behind Jane Simpson’s victory; Argo Regional is next on 10/22.

14) Stagg (Palos Hills) - placed a close third to Sandburg and Lockport in SW Suburban Blue meet; at Bremen Regional 10/22.

15) Wheaton-Warrenville South- finished a distant third in DVC action behind then #3 Naperville North and #4 Wheaton North; will compete in Aurora Regional on 10/22.

16) New Trier (Winnetka) - won the CSL title in close fashion over rival Evanston 47-53.  The Trevians placed three runners in the top ten; next up is Niles North Regional on 10/22.

17) Evanston- finished a close second to neighbor New Trier in CSL action.  Katherine Page led the Wildkits with her 4th place finish; will compete in Niles North Regional on 10/22.

18) Palatine Fremd- finished 3rd in MSL conference meet behind second place finish of Chelsea Bolton; will compete in Palatine Regional on 10/22.

19) York (Elmhurst) - previously ranked and sometimes Dr. Heckle and Mr. Hide Lady Dukes stepped in a big way heading into the post-season by tying for conference win in WSC Silver action.  However, the first place plaque was awarded to Hinsdale Central because they had a lower sixth runner; Proviso West Regional is next on 10/22.

20) Prairie Ridge (Crystal Lake)- placed a strong second in Fox Valley meet behind then #12 Cary Grove with 55 points; will compete in Woodstock Regional on 10/22.
