Class A Rankings

Week of October 10

 

Boys-

 

1)      Winnebago- dominated the Amboy Invitational with 71 points.  The Indians scoring went= 1,2,10,16,42.  Some believe Tremont may pose a threat to the Indians title hopes but not likely at this juncture.

2)      Tremont- placed a solid second at Amboy.  However, Tremont is not on the level of ‘Bago at this time despite their scoring through 4 men= 3,5,14,39,[43]

3)      Sparta- not enough data to report.

4)      Cumberland- won Mahomet-Seymour Invitational in a tiebreaker over AA University High of Normal.

5)      Monticello- placed third at Mahomet but 2nd among Class A teams.

6)      Henry-Midland- was 5th at Amboy Invitational

7)      Delevan- a re-entry here.  Delevan placed a very surprising and strong 3rd place at Amboy Invitational.

8)      Beecher- finishes 6th at Amboy and just outdistancing new found rival Westmont.

9)      Westmont- 7th at Amboy Invite was satisfactory finish

10)  Eureka- placed 9th at Amboy Invite.

11)  Olympia- Placed 9th at the solid Metamora Invitational.

12)  St. Joseph-Ogden- placed 5th overall in tough Mahomet-Seymour Invite

13)  Rockford Christian- 13th overall at Sterling Invitational (1st among Class A).

14)  Princeton- placed 10th at Amboy Invitational.

15)  Oregon- did not run a full team.

 

 

Girls-

 

1)      Winnebago- won Amboy Invitational with 61 points making the statement that they are the best team in Class A.

2)      Decatur St. Teresa- lost title on tie- breaker to Class AA Mahomet-Seymour at their invitational.

3)      Petersburg-Porta- 2nd to Winnebago at Amboy.  It was thought that PP would upset the Indians but it was not to be.

4)      Eureka- a distant 3rd place at Amboy.  Many critics had the Hornets winning before the race started.

5)      Robinson- defeated Lawrenceville 15-43 in dual meet on 10/4.

6)      Rochester- was the fourth Class A team to finish at MS.

7)      Monmouth- 5th at Amboy Invite.

8)      Rockford Christian- 10th overall at Sterling Invitational (1st among Class A).

9)      St. Joseph-Ogden- 3rd among Class A at MS.

10)  Rockford Lutheran- did not compete over the weekend.

11)  Tremont- 7th at Amboy Invite.

12)  Beecher- 8th at Amboy Invite.

13)  Bureau Valley- did not compete over the weekend.

14)  Elmwood- placed 9th at Amboy.

15)  Aurora Central Catholic- placed a respectable sixth at Amboy Invite.

Boys A Super 20-

 

1)      Jeremy Stevens (sr) (Winnebago) - still undefeated with a crushing victory in Amboy Invitational.  Stevens won by nearly a minute over a solid field.  He simply is in a league of his own.

2)      Dorian Ulrey (sr) (Riverdale) - finished 5th at Sterling Invitational among a fleet of top-flight Class AA runners.

3)      Charlie Hatch (sr) (Nashville) - did not compete over weekend.

4)      Tyler Bradford (sr) (Wayne City) - won the Centralia Invite over mostly AA competition.

5)      Scott Krapf (sr) (Danville Schlarman) - had to come from behind to win at Mahomet-Seymour Invitational over the tough willed M. Feldhake.  Krapf trailed late in the race but laid down furious kick mere yards from the finish line (15:20-15:21).

6)      Trenton Tedrick (so) (Winnebago) - placed 2nd at Amboy Invite behind great teammate J. Stevens.

7)      Clay Staley (sr) (Illini Bluffs) - won the Metamora Invitational in 15:12 over a heavy Class AA field.

8)      John Niesler (sr) (Olympia) - placed 5th at Metamora Invitational.

9)      Greg McBride (sr) (Sparta) - did not compete over the weekend.

10)  Matt Feldhake (So.)  (Effingham St. Anthony) - placed second to Krapf at Mahomet-Seymour.

11)  Challas Ray (Sr.) (Cumberland) - 3rd at MS.

12)  Keith Butler (Sr.) Monticello-

13)  Sam DuBose (Sr.) (Elgin Fox Valley Lutheran) - did not run over the weekend.

14)  Scott Phelps (sr) (Monticello) - 6th at MS Invite.

15)  Matt Morse (Jr.) (St. Bede) - did not compete over the weekend.

16)  Josh Williams (Sr.) (DuQuoin) - did not compete over the weekend.

17)  Roger Pinion (Jr.) (Chicago Quigley Prep) - won Elmwood Park Invite.

18)  Nathan Warstler (Jr) (Georgetown) - 5th at MS.

19)  Jared Koch (?)  (Tremont)- 3rd at Amboy Invite.

20)  Matt Sudkamp (?)  (Cumberland)- New entry- placed 7th at MS.

 

Girls’ Elite rankings-

 

1)      Katelyn Bastert (Jr.) (Carthage) - raced almost a double header.  First, it was out to Metamora (Sat. 10/8) against some of the best competition in AA, including #1 Caitlin Comfort, which she defeated running a smooth 16:47 over 2.95 miles.  On to Amboy Invite against great Class A action and same results- ringing victories!  The kid is unstoppable.

2)      Teresa Brokaw (sr) (West Central) - finished a fine second at Amboy Invitational behind the great K. Bastert.  Brokaw has established herself as the one to beat for runner up honors.

3)      TeNeal Pinkston (So.)  (Robinson)- Perhaps the top runner in the southern part of Illinois in terms of girls’ small school XC.  Pinkston continues to roll up victories.
