clocking from top runner Tim Entwistle; at St. Charles East Invite on 10/8.

at Peoria Invitational (this without #2 runner); Madison
County meet 10/4 is next.
Boys AA Super 25 Rankings
*week of Oct. 2, 2005
1) Jon
Popejoy (Sr) (Wheaton-Warrenville South) - maintains the top spot with
convincing victory in Crete-Monee Pow Wow championship division over tremendous
field.
2) Steve
Finley (Sr) (Palatine) - the king of
runner- ups moves into the second position after another solid second place
performance at Crete.
3) Ryan
Craven (Sr) (Prospect) - was given specific orders by his coach to not race
until the two mile. Craven proceeded to
run the last mile in 4:42 after 10:02 after 2m.
He nearly caught Eric Dettman- it’s obvious that he still has it.
4) Matt
Dettman (Sr) (York) - supplanted himself back as a serious title contender
with a blistering victory over a quality field that featured his team brother
Eric. His time of 14:32 equals the output of J. Popejoy from several weeks
back on the state meet course (Detweiller).
5) Eric
Dettman (Sr) (York) - runner up to twin brother at Peoria Invitational and
individual title threat come November.
6) Evan
Jager (Jr) (Jacobs) - remains in the same position from last week even
though he was victorious by a minute on the challenging Antioch
course.
7) Kevin
Havel (So) (Hersey) - took first place honors at Lockport Fall Challenge;
established Dellwood course record in the process.
8) Bruce
MacTaggart (Sr) (Glenbard South) - finished second at Loyola Lakefront
Invitational to one of Canada’s
best youngsters.
9) Tim
Entwistle (Sr) (Stevenson) - most impressive move up the charts after
stellar performance at Peoria Invite. Entwistle’s
4th place finish was crème de le crème.
10) David
Grange (Jr) (Marmion Academy)
- stays undefeated once again in repeat victory over then #22 Luke Rygh at
rugged Lisle Mane Event (5k).
11) Ryan
Jacobs (Jr) (Hononegah) - a surprising 4th place finish at Crete
for someone who is considered by many as a state title threat. Perhaps, this was Jacob’s only sub-par race
of the season.
12) Jacob
Kolacz (Sr) (Naperville
North) - battled to the end against Hersey’s Kevin Havel at Lockport Fall
Challenge. Havel
ran 16:11 for 5k is tremendous at Dellwood
Park and a course record.
13) Christian
Escareno (Sr) (Rolling Meadows)
- consider the fact that Escareno did not race for several weeks due to
injury. He was still able to set a
personal best for 3 mile (14:52) and
top five finish at Peoria Invite.
14) Chas Gillespie
(Sr) (New Trier) -
ran well coming off a bye week in maybe his best race of season at Crete.
15) Kevin
Adamowski (Jr) (Sandburg) - ran fairly well with sixth spot at Crete-Monee
that put his team in spot to take second place in overall standings.
16) Jesse
Luciano (Sr) (Willowbrook) - has been on the “shelf” with Achilles Heal
injury several weeks. “Lucky” could
probably finish in the top 20 with a bad wheel.
17) David
Montgomery (Sr) (York) - continuing to improve as solid third runner for
the Dukes; placed sixth at Peoria Invite.
18) Luke
Ryan (Jr) (Downers Grove North) -
perhaps feeling a little rust after bye week with 9th place finish
at Crete.
19) Mark
DeSilva (Sr) (St. Charles North) - won
St. Charles North Invite by comfortable margin.
20) Luke
Rygh (Sr) (Oswego) -
finished just a few ticks short of Grange again at Lisle Mane Event.
21) Dustin
Davis (Sr) (Edwardsville) - continues to prove that he is best in the south
with 7th place finish but still has not had that great breakout race
against the young men of the North.
22) Mark
Battista (Jr) (Lincoln Way
Central) [new entry] - has been on the crust of top 25 for several weeks. Battista ran extremely well at Crete
(3rd) and may have surprised a few people in the process.
23) Brandon
Murphy (Sr) (Oak Park-River
Forest) - ran
well enough to stay in fraternity based on strength factor and finish at strong
Crete with 10th place finish.
24) Tom
Achtien (So) (York) [new entry]- earned his way aboard fraternity after
winning Palatine f/s race in varsity type performance; placed top 10 in Notre
Dame Varsity race several weeks ago and top ten at Crete; will give The Dukes a
solid man in the near future.
25) Emmanuel
Ramirez (?) (Elk Grove) [new
entry]- this is not a fluke… Ramirez
placed well in several invites and dual meets in the tough MSL
league. He actually had DeSilva
concerned until late in the race at SCN Invite.
Class AA Girls Super 25
runners
*Week of Oct, 2, 2005
1) Caitlin
Comfort (So) (Peoria Notre Dame)-enters third straight week as top runner
after passing another test against quality field at Peoria Invite. The diminutive harrier toured the historic
Detweiller course, which appeared somewhat damp from recent rain, in 17:20. Comfort
cruised to a big victory and appears to be the one to beat as state looms in
the next month.
2) Haley
Staples (Fr) (Crystal
Lake Central)
- it appears the freshman is here to stay and should be undefeated going
into the state meet barring any letdowns.
Oh, she did win her race again- at Antioch Invite.
3) Janna
Mitsos (Fr) (Lockport)
- for the second week in a row, the freshman won a big invitational (Oak
Park last week) over quality runners. However, the Falcon Classic, hosted by
Wheaton North-featured a sensational field, rivaled only by the state meet. Mitsos held on to a narrow five-second
victory.
4) Shannon
Phelan (Sr) - placed second in loaded championship flight of Wheaton North
Classic. Phelan’s time of 17:47 would ordinarily win the vast majority
of xc races. Still, the intent was to
help her team secure team victory.
5) Amanda
Beggs (Sr) (Lincoln Way East)
- returned From last weekend’s idle spot to finish fifth at WN. To be specific, Beggs clocked 18:03- a very solid time.
6) Michelle
Stratton (Fr) (Naperville
North) - won Flight 2 with tremendous ease (18:10). This proves she can compete well even without
teammate Phelan lurking next to her.
7) Chelsea
Bolton (Jr) (Palatine Fremd)- probably would admit to not performing up to
her standards and expectations, but the junior harrier still turned in a solid
job- 5th place at WN.
8) Stephanie
Peisker (Fr) (Crystal
Lake Central)
- still has not lost to anyone besides her teammate Haley Staples. The smooth freshman placed second at Antioch
Invite by a huge margin over third place.
Peisker should be “undefeated” until state- it will be interesting.
9) Kalli
Dalton (Fr) (Conant) - won only meet of week in dual vs. Palatine
and Amy Laskowske on 9/29.
10) Amber
Stack (So) (Wheeling)
- the defending state champion maybe on her way up to championship form. Ms. Stack bolted from the starting gun at
Loyola Lakefront Invitational and never looked back. Her mile splits were solid indicators to her
foes out there: 1m-5:35, 2m-11:45, 3m- 17:50—[18:24 for 5k].
In her own words of the situation: “I guess I ran well, I just wanted to
go out and go for it and take it (the title).”
11) Kristin
Sutherlin (Fr) (Sandburg) - IDLE over the weekend.
12) Nefeteri
Williams (Sr) (Proviso West) - two solid performances during the week: 1)
ran unattached against Hinsdale Central and others in tri meet (won that with
ease); 2) finished second to defending state champion at Lakefront
Invitational.
13) A’seret
Dokubu (Sr) (Conant) - placed second to teammate Dalton
at Palatine dual on 9/29.
14) Amy
Laskowske (Sr) (Palatine) - was third
against Conant’s 1-2 punch.
15) Jamie
Kanter (Jr) (Edwardsville) - placed a very disappointing 13th at
Peoria. Kanter was very sick leading up to meet but
wanted to help team for victory (she did).
16) Christina
Schaefer (Sr) (Buffalo Grove) - has
garnered noticeable attention through grapevine the several weeks. Schaefer is not a fluke; she placed 6th
at WN. The senior previously ran well at
Palatine Invite.
17) Regina
George (Fr) (Chicago Gordon Tech)- the lanky freshman strutted her talent
as she got out well and held position throughout Lakefront Invitational for
third place.
18) Kim
Ebbeson (Sr) (Bartlett) - IDLE over weekend.
19) Amanda Laesch (Sr) (Wheaton
North) - only ninth at her teams’ invite in the championship flight. The senior ace has not run as well as
predicted this season to date.
20) Sequoia
McKinney (Sr)
(Thornridge Coop) - finally back to what she does best- run. With all of her personal issues aside, the
all-around talent won the Rich East Invite during the week in dramatic fashion
over previously ranked Ann Glaz (Stagg).
21) Lizzie
Hynes (Fr) (St. Charles East) - a very
strong 3rd place at WN builds her stock for future competition.
22) Nicole Benson (So) (Limestone) - had a split decision: lost
to Gustafson at her invite; then beat her at Peoria Invite.
23) Nancy Nieto (Jr) (Streamwood)
- finally back from illnesses. The
streaky junior went on to win the St. Charles North Invite.
24) Emily
Gustafson (?) (East
Peoria)- has displayed the ability to put
together quality races back to back. She
should be an all-state runner this season.
25) Liz
Phillips (So) (Lockport)
- IDLE over weekend.
