How the Top 25 AA girls fared

  1. Palatine- assumed the top spot by virtue of winning Peoria Notre Dame easily over previous #1 Naperville North.  The Pirates coped the title with a swift 84 points.  They also placed four runners in the top 25.
  2. Sandburg- the Eagles have been looking great this early in the season and it showed at PND (2nd!).  It appears the Eagles are running well as a pack nowadays with Glander, Klaczynski, and the Janosz twins anchored lead runner Kristin Sutherlin.
  3. Naperville North- lost the top spot to two teams better than them on “that day” at PND; the road to the state meet should go through NN.  The Huskies also took one on the chin earlier in the week in a dual to Wheaton North.
  4. Wheaton North- IDLE over the weekend; beat Naperville North in a dual as a full squad during the week.
  5. Hinsdale Central- finished a strong 4th at PND behind solid racing of top runners Lauren Zumbach and Roey Hines.
  6. Palatine Fremd- won Libertyville Invite over ranked foes New Trier and Lockport.  Fremd is a dangerous team that will face top ranked Palatine 10/6.

  8. Edwardsville- won its own invitational decisively behind the strength of Jamie Kanter.
  9. St. Charles East- enjoyed their performance at PND with a marvelous 5th place showing; the Fighting Saints have three strong runners in Lizzy Hines, Kristin Lang, and Krista Moss.
  10. Stagg (Palos)- continues to climb the chart after great finish at PND and 7th place finish is totally justified.
  11. Benet Academy (Lisle)- bounced back after a tough week by capturing Kaneland “Larry Eddington” Invitational.
  12. Lincoln Way East (Frankfort)- showing at PND was so-so as 4 and 5 were way back.

  15. Waubonsie Valley- the Warriors won their second invitational of the year at Downers Grove South.
  16. Lockport- going through some coach induced team changes.  Things should be solved by conference.
  17. Oak Park-River Forest- the Huskies continue their dream right through the top twenty; top ten finish in a major xc meet is a beautiful thing.
  18. Wheaton-Warrenville South- may or may not be hiding back performances but team is not running well as should.

AA Boys Super 25

Week 3- week of September 19, 2005

1)      Jon Popejoy (Sr) (Wheaton-Warrenville South) - the bottom line is Mr. J Popejoy is the best right now until someone trumps his performances.  He is back in ’03 form that earned him Footlocker regional respect.  He produced one of the fastest times ever (14:31) for a non-state meet time at Detweiller on the recent and legitimate 3-mile course.

2)      Jesse Luciano (Sr) (Willowbrook) - IDLE over past week.

3)      Matt Dettman (Sr) (York) - opened up season with win against Downers Grove North over 2.85m layout in 14:0?  The season’s first real test will be at Palatine Invite this weekend (9/28).

4)      Eric Dettman (Sr) (York) - just a tick behind twin brother; will receive same test this weekend at Palatine.

5)      Ryan Craven (Sr) (Prospect) - used week past week as a training ground despite running in two meets.  Craven held back to run with team pack at dual meet vs. Elk Grove and Libertyville Invite.

6)      Steve Finley (Sr) (Palatine)- for the third time this season the Pirate ace went against a top athlete; ran personal best of 14:41 at Peoria Notre Dame meet.

7)      Evan Jager (Jr) (Jacobs) - maintained spot with victory at Kaneland Invite- 15:11.

8)      Bruce MacTaggart (Sr) (Glenbard South)- led his team to the team title at PND; ran personal best in the process as well as rolled back Adamowski in the final 30 meters of the race for 4th place.

9)      Ryan Jacobs (jr) (Hononegah)- won Forest Park Invite in 14:49- pulled away from Jared Richardson and others just before the two mile mark.

10)  Luke Ryan (Jr) (Downers Grove North) - ran with the conviction he is capable of; the race of his life to date was staying with Popejoy and a small pack through 1.5 miles.

11)  Kevin Havel (So) (Hersey) - IDLE.

12)  Kevin Adamowski (Jr) (Sandburg) - ran a great race at PND; can be a threat for a top ten position at state.

13)  Dustin Davis (Sr) (Edwardsville) - won his own invitational in a close one over 5000 meters.  Dustin’s time of 16:02 on the very rugged course is 4th best behind among others Stephen Pifer (’02 state champion).

14)  Jacob Kolacz (Sr) (Naperville North) - some critics thought this kid was overrated.  Obviously not after a top tier finish at PND.

15)  Christian Escareno (Sr) (Rolling Meadows) - when Craven did not want to challenge for individual honors, the Mustang runner took off and never looked back in 15:31.

16)  Chas Gillespie (Sr) (New Trier) - a very close second at Libertyville.

17)  Matt DeSilva (Sr) (St. Charles North)- may have held back at Downers South Invite but still ran solid in helping his team’s winning cause.

18)  David Grange (Jr) (Marmion Academy) - continues his winning ways; still undefeated.

19)  Jared Richardson (Sr) (Harlem) - finished third at Forest City Invite; coming off a sickness that hampered his training over the past week.

20)  Ben Bouman (Sr) (Downers Grove South) - won his team’s invitation against some top runners.

21)  Nick Farina (Sr) (Barrington) - finished second at Argo Invite but won an early dual meet against Schaumburg.

22)  Sean Angst (Sr) (Glenbard East) - has been on the crust of rankings but finally broke through by winning Argo Invite.

23)  David Montgomery (Sr) (York) - was fourth behind Luke Ryan at team’s first meet.

24)  Brent Carius (Sr) (Waubonsie Valley) - IDLE.

25)  Austin Green (Sr) (Rock Island) - enters the fraternity by virtue of solid performances over the past few weeks and winning a competitive meet against runners from Western Illinois and Eastern Iowa.
