-Class AA Girls Weekly Recap-

*Week #6- week of 10/2/06

#1 Hinsdale Central (10/5)- narrowly defeated then #4 York 27-29 in association with triangular with Downers Grove North 17-42.  The Red Devils went 2,4,5,8,10 with a 1:09 split; next is WSC Silver championship on 10/14 at Lyons Twp H.S.

#2 Roselle (Lake Park)- finished second to then #3 Barrington in Wheeling Invitational-scoring 40 points to the Fillies 31.  The sea-saw affair came down to the fifth runner and Barrington prevailed.  Both teams had four runners in the top ten; next is Upstate Eight Conference meet on 10/14 in Elgin.

#3 Barrington- the Fillies scored another major victory prior to the post-season with a victory over then #2 Lake Park at Wheeling Invitational.  The Fillies placed four runners in the top 6 before holding back a LP surge.  Danielle Locascio, the normal #2-3 runner, stepped up big in securing the victory; next is MSL championship at Busse Woods on 10/14.

#4 Elmhurst (York) (10/5)- the Dukettes continued their strong season with a narrow loss to #1 Hinsdale Central 29-27 and victory over Downers Grove North 17-42.  The Dukettes scored 1-3 on Laurie Dalrymple’s and Maggie Sack’s respectable finishes; next is WSC Silver Championship at Lyons Twp H.S. on 10/14.

#5 Naperville North- IDLE over the past week; next is DVC championship, hosted by Wheaton North- Northside Park on 10/14.

#6 Wheaton North- IDLE during the past week; will be hosting DVC championship on 10/14.

#7 Lisle (Benet Academy)- placed second in own invite to then #12 Mother McAuley. The Redwings received 1-2 finishes from Abby Higgins and McKinzie Schultz but it wasn’t enough.  It appears that the Redwings back pack was too far down to prevent McAuley from sandwiching its pack from taking over; next is ESCC championship on 10/14.

#8 Edwardsville- the Tigerettes went 1,4,7,8,9,14 for 29 pts and first place at the Centralia Invitational.  All seven Tigerettes ran under 20 minutes on a tough three-mile course; SWC championship on 10/14 is next.

#9 Palatine- upset at Metamora Invite to then #13 East Peoria.  The Pirates placed just one runner in the top 10 in the central Illinois contest.  The Pirates continue to have an up and down season it seems; next is MSL championship at Busse Woods on 10/14.

#10 Palatine Fremd- Chelsea Bolton’s 2nd place finish in the West Aurora Stampede was the difference between placing 1st or 2nd.  The Vikings won with 85 pts to 87 for upstart Neuqua Valley; next is MSL championship at Busse Woods on 10/14.

#11 Orland Park (Sandburg)- placed 6th in West Aurora Stampede. The Eagles appeared to use this meet as a means to set its post-season line up.  Several on the bubble runners ran in the varsity race and one or two varsity runners ran in the JV or open race.  Ace Kristin Sutherland wins rather easily in 17:50; next up is South Suburban Conference meet at Dellwood Park (Lockport) on 10/14.

#12 Chicago (Mother McAuley)- continues to show powerhouse teams they are for real with Benet Invitational victory.  The Mighty Macs scored 38pts and defeated a very good Benet team (previously ranked 7th) with a strong pack.  The “Macs’ pack” went 3,6,7,8 (1-4 was 18 seconds); next is GCAC championship on 10/14.

#13 East Peoria- took another step toward elite status with solid victory over then #9 Palatine at Metamora Invitational.  The Raiders used a scoring punch of 2,4,6 then 10,20 to defeat the perennial xc power.  The final score of 42-61 showed just how dominant EP was; next is conference meet on 10/14.

#14 Frankfort (Lincoln- Way East)- placed third in Benet Invitational with 74 pts. Stephanie Gabrys placed 4th overall for the Griffins; next SSC championship on 10/14.

#15 Tinley Park (Andrew)- IDLE over the weekend; next is SSC championship on 10/14.

#16 Lockport- IDLE over the weekend; next is SSC championship on 10/14.

#17 Downers Grove South- the Trojans continued running well with a solid place finish at West Aurora Stampede.  Thate and Harms produced top 10 finishes for DGS; WSC Gold championship is next on 10/14.

#18 Mahomet-Seymour- IDLE over the weekend; next is conference championship on 10/14.

#19 Batavia- placed a disappointing 6th at W. Aurora.  It appeared Batavia’s top runners had a day off.  They were missing #2 runner but top runner Amanda Good was only 19th; next is UEC championship on 10/14.

#20 LaGrange (Lyons Twp)- IDLE over the weekend; will be hosting WSC Silver championship on 10/14.

#21 Palos Hill (Stagg)- won the Rich Central Invite with 27 points. Stagg took the first three places in the easy victory; SSC championship is next on 10/14.

#22 Cary-Grove- IDLE over the weekend; next is Fox Valley Conference championship at Grayslake North on 10/14.

#23 Oak Park-River Forest- IDLE over the weekend; next is WSC Silver championship on 10/14.

#24 Winnetka (New Trier)- placed 5th at Wheeling Invite; next is CSL championship on 10/14.

#25 Wilmette (Loyola Academy)- finished a very distant second place to Iowa City H.S. at Sterling Invite.  The Ramblers scored 80pts to just 28 for Iowa City; next is conference meet on 10/14.

Girls AA Super 25- Individuals

*week #7- October 9, 2006

1)     Caitin Comfort (Jr.) Peoria (Notre Dame)- finished second to Katelyn Bastert once again- this time at Metamora Invite.  It appears as though Bastert is Kryptonite to Comfort, who has blasted great AA competition but has never finished within 10 seconds of her #1 rival.  This is puzzling for the fact that Bastert appears beatable this season.
