Class AA Girls Top 25 Team Recap

*Week #4

1)     Hinsdale Central- placed 2nd in Culver, Indiana Invite with 102 points.  The Red Devils got their shot at the Midwest’s best team- Westfield, Indiana, who took home first place with 66pts.  The Red Devils defeated nearly all of Indiana’s best: #2 Carmel, #4 Northridge, #6 Lawrence North, #7 Chatard, #10 Valparaiso- just to name a few.  The Hinsdale scoring contingent went: 11, 21, 23, 24, 28- several members have been under the weather including #1 runner Lauren Zumbach, who finished 23rd overall; next is big Wheaton North Classic on 9/30.

2)     Roselle (Lake Park)- LP traveled north of the border to take on some of Wisconsin’s finest and came back satisfied.  The Lancers placed second to Middleton, Wisconsin (#2 in Division 2- big class).  The Lancers ran just six runners going 6,10,12,20,23= 71pts. Lindsay Flanagan led the Lancers with in 6th (15:17-4k); next is Niles West Invitational on 9/30.

3)     Barrington- won Palatine Invite scoring a swift 78 points in once again upstaging host Palatine.  This is the first time the Fillies won the Palatine Invite despite having great teams in the past.  Although the Fillies didn’t look or run as sharp as they usually do, they packed things well from the middle race on, utilizing a 41 second 1-5 split; next is triangular meet vs. #7 Palatine Fremd and Conant on 9/28.

4)     Lisle (Benet Academy)- (9/19) took Streamwood quad with 27 pts; placed second to York with 50 pts in DuPage County Invitational.  BA went 2-3 behind the strong running of Abby Higgins and upstart runner freshman McKinzie Schulz; next is Antioch Invite on 9/30.

5)     Wheaton North- IDLE for the week; will be hosting Wheaton North Classic on 9/30.

6)     Naperville North- IDLE for the week; will be attending the Wheaton North Classic on 9/30.

7)     Palatine Fremd- varsity was IDLE during the past week; at #3 Barrington on 9/28.

8)     Lockport- placed 3rd at Oak Park-River Forest Invite with 84pts.  It was the first time the Porters even remotely put together a solid unit.  Coach Evon Schlotter indicated earlier this week that it is going to be a process for her team but hopefully by the end of the season they will be rolling.  The big three from last year ran well (Mitsos, Phillips, and Lakie) but the Porters are hurting at #5; next is Wheaton North Classic on 9/30.

9)     Edwardsville- did not compete due to inclement weather conditions in Hancock, Missouri (lightening); next is Peoria Central Invite on 9/30.

10) Elmhurst (York)- won Du Page County Invite over then #4 Benet Academy.  The Dukes ran well after enduring several weeks of low-key competition; next is Peoria Central Invite on 9/30.

11) Orland Park (Sandburg)- placed second in OPRF Invite.  The Eagles scored a swift 76pts.  Ace Kristin Sutherland landed top honors in 18:01; next is dual @ Joliet Twp on 10/3.

12) Frankfort (Lincoln-Way East)- Varsity IDLE during past week; next up is Wheaton North Classic on 9/30.

13) Palatine- hosted Palatine Invite and placed a strong second.  The Pirates rebounded nicely after last week’s somewhat sub-par effort at Peoria Notre Dame.  The Pirates scored 96pts= 9,12,17,18,40- proving they are very tight 1-4.  The team split 1-5 was 48 seconds; at Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates on 9/28.

14) Tinley Park (Andrew)- won the Tinley Park Invitational (Championship division) by a single point over Marist.  Kailyn Kuzmuk won the championship flight and obtained the best overall time; Rich East Invitational on 9/28 is next.

15) Mahomet-Seymour- placed 2nd at East Peoria Invite with 54 pts. M-S was led once again by a very strong performance courtesy of Jackie Waldman who placed 3rd; at Normal University dual on 10/3.

16) East Peoria- (9/19) swept dual meet vs. Pekin 15-44. The Raiders took the first five spots. #3 runner Brooke Potendyk did not run (illness); hosted and won EP Invite over then #15 Mahomet-Seymour 41-54.  EP is quickly becoming a force to reckon with; next is Peoria Central Invite on 9/30.

17) Cary-Grove- finished 5th at Palatine Invite.  CG struggled much of the race with its front runners establishing position with the top tier runners.  However, 1-5 split of 40 seconds was better than any team; next is Wheaton North Classic 9/30.

18) Chicago (Mother McAuley)- placed a strong 3rd at Palatine Invite.  The Mighty Macs scored a nice 123pts in the strong 20 team field; Wheaton North Classic is next on 9/30.

19) Palos Hills (Stagg)- (9/19)- won Bolingbrook triangular scoring 20pts.  Twins Kara and Krista Moylan went 1-2 for the Chargers; the team took a major step toward the big time by winning the OPRF Invite, beating traditional heavyweights Sandburg and Lockport. OPRF scoring went: 6,8,10,13,33- this despite off days from the Moylan duo; Wheaton North Classic on 9/30 is next.

20) Oak Park-River Forest- host OPRF Invite and finished 4th.  The Rack sisters: Katherine and Alison placed in the top 10 for the Huskies; next up is Loyola Lakefront Invite on 9/30.

22) Downers Grove South- won at Leyden on 9/19. Nicole Thate took first place; next is Wheaton North Classic on 9/30.

23) Winnetka (New Trier)- defeated Waukegan in dual on 9/19; next at Antioch on 9/30.
